Beyond internet of things: insight on things

The current focus of data analytics is strongly on building the infrastructure. Data, coming from things and also, importantly, from people is usually presented as-is: raw in a dashboard. This is an important step, as it allows users of that data to get information right now. However, much of the raw data doesn’t really show very clearly the things we are interested in. Fault prediction is hampered as the small shift in system behavior is hidden in the noise of the measured indirect signals. More so, human interaction with machines is not taken into the IoT setup. Based on examples, we show how to combine data with models from physics and psychometry to unleash the data’s value.
